Understanding And Applying God’s Word…

Biblically, we are told sin entered into our world through our great ancestors Adam and Eve. As we are told in Genesis 3:6 Eve ate first of what she was ought not, and then gave to Adam. Interesting… because in 1 Timothy 2:14 we are told by the Apostle Paul… And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

So, Eve ate first, but Adam bears the responsibility for bringing sin and death into our world as we are told in Romans 5:12… Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned… that seems a bit odd at first sight, does it not? Why is it that Adam carries the eternal blame and shame of sin and death?

To answer that, we need to go back a little further in Genesis… Read with me, Genesis 2: 8-9… The LORD God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed. Out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

And then, Genesis 2: 16-17… The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”

We read here, that God gave the commandment not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil to Adam… Eve had not been created from man yet… that won’t occur until Genesis 2: 21-22! Adam as head of the family, had the responsibility to share and teach what God had told him to Eve, his wife. And many theologians believe that Adam failed in this, and that is why Eve was not able to accurately  and correctly respond to the serpent.

I believe that is still the case, these many millennium later. Husbands… Fathers, have a responsibility to teach and instruct their families in the word of God. But sadly many men do not even attend church or open God’s word to study it for themselves. They are too busy with careers and other activities to take time and be the head of the home… as God has called us to.

And this in large part explains to me, why the family  in the world is in such disarray.

Ephesians 5:25 says… Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her… if we really, truly love our wives and families… we men, will be diligent in the study and application of God’s word and bring that into our families. That is love.

Aliens and Strangers

I find biblical contrasts very interesting. For example: I Cor. 15:22 – “In Adam all die”/ I Cor. 15:22 – “in Christ shall all be made alive.” or Eph. 4:22 – “you have laid aside the old man”/ Eph. 4:24 – “you have put on the new man”. Throughout scripture God presents two pictures: the eternally lost and the eternally saved.

I have recently completed an in-depth study of the Book of Revelation. In that study, I discovered that God uses the term those that “dwell upon the earth” ten times in 22 chapters…for example Rev. 13:8… All who dwell on the earth will worship him (the Beast), everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain. These earth dwellers as I refer to them, are those during the seven-year tribulation/great tribulation period that is described in chapters 5-19 that will not repent and rather put their trust in military might, science and the ingenuity of man… these dwellers upon the earth are quite literally trusting in this world, its world leader, the Beast and their intellect to eternally save them.

Contrast that with what God calls those who are redeemed, born again Christians. In 1 Peter 2:11 the old fisherman Peter says… Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.

As Christians, we are to turn away from the deceitfulness and finiteness of this world- our hope is not here, and turn our eyes heavenward… looking unto Jesus- the author and finisher of our faith.

So, I urge you to not be an earth dweller, but rather an alien and stranger in this world.

Rebuilding the Tower of Babel?

This picture is a poster of the Tower of Babel for the European Union and the photo next to it is the European Union building designed to look like the Tower of Babel. Interesting, don’t you think?

In Genesis 11:1-7, we have God’s take on the Tower of Babel. We read: Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words. It came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.” And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar. They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” The Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. The Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.  Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”

The city was a political/civil union of earth’s inhabitant’s at that time, with the tower being a religious enterprise the means of man reaching God in heaven… the name they wanted to make for themselves was to be God. At Babel, God scattered mankind and confounded their language so they could not communicate their evil designs to one another.

God scattered the builders of Babel… but today’s science and technology is desiring the opposite: to unite all nations into one new world. Today’s technology is aimed at breaking down every language barrier… for example: today on a smart phone, with the aid of a simple app, we can speak into it and have our voice translated into nearly any language… pretty incredible… and today, pretty commonplace.

So, why not encourage and enjoy what intellect and talent has accomplished?

Because as God said in Genesis 8:21… the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth.

Humankind will not settle with just speaking to each other… we always want more. That “more”… is today’s desire to not only create humanlike robotics, but we also want to install in the robotics artificial intelligence (AI). Science also wants to take that robotic/AI creation and also take the human mind (what the Bible calls our soul) and implant it into the robotic system. Read this article on Elon Musk:

This is man’s effort to achieve immortality apart from God… we are continuing the Tower of Babel to build our way up to God… but in reality, making God in our own image.

The Bible calls Christians “pilgrims”, “strangers” and “aliens”. We are told our bodies are tents and this world is not our home.

We are told in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18… And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves.  Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.  So encourage each other with these words.

So, as we see this world and science doing all sorts ungodly testing and experiments, take hope Christian, Jesus is coming for us soon. Amen.
