This photo was taken in 2014 in Israel, at a place called “Shiloh.” Doesn’t look like much, does it? Rocky, barren and isolated. So, why take a photo of this place?… you may ask.
Because, we are told in Joshua 18:1… Then the whole congregation of the sons of Israel assembled themselves at Shiloh, and set up the tent of meeting there; and the land was subdued before them.
You see, after the Israelites had wandered through the desert for forty years, God then led them into the promised land… and after conquering much of the land, it was at Shiloh where the LORD had them set up the Tabernacle the place where God dwelt and the people worshipped. It was this stony, wind-swept lonely place where the LORD met them… not in some plush garden, or resort area. No. In the rocky place.
It is still the same today. I know from experience, that during the holiday period, many become depressed, saddened and lonely. This can be due to poor life decisions. It may be because of family departed. It may be from just the pressures of life. But, I can also tell you from experience, that God wants to meet you in that rocky, desolate and lonely place in your life… He is waiting to tabernacle to fellowship with you.
We are told in Hebrews 4: 8-10… For if Joshua (this same Joshua who led the Israelites into the promised land) had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.
We can battle and fight this life in our own strength… but that will wear us out and down. Only in the Lord Jesus, will we find true rest and peace. Turn to Him this holiday season, when you are at the end of yourself.
We are told in Genesis 49:10… The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. The scepter has come- and He is Jesus- and He is waiting to tabernacle with you- today!!
